Ibadan, Jan. 10, 2017 (NAN) The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji says he will set up a committee to look into the crisis rocking the Ibadan Market Traders Association led by Iyaloja of Ibadan, Chief Labake Lawal.

This is contained in a statement signed by the monarch’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Mr Adeola Oloko and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Tuesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that crisis had erupted within the ranks of the Ibadan Joint Traders Association, leading to the removal of Lawal as Iyaloja.

The members at a congress presided over by the President Alhaji Dauda Oladapo had hinged the removal of Lawal on fraud and high-handedness.

But in a swift reaction, another group loyal to Lawal announced the removal of the president of the association through the one-man Board of Trustee.

The group said that market leaders and numerous supporters had besieged the Olubadan’s palace on Thursday to explain their side of the story.

The Olubadan explained that the issue deserved thorough investigation, adding that a committee of three or four people who are independent of the matter would be constituted.

According to him, “a thorough investigation into the matter would return peace to the market place and strengthen the unity and indivisibility of the traders who have been polarised.”

They are, therefore, asked to hand over their petition and all relevant documents to the Secretary to the Olubadan-in-Council.

The monarch, on Monday, replaced the embattled Baale Oloode, Chief Lukumon Alao in Oluyole Local Government of Oyo State with Chief Odeyemi Olayiwola.

NAN reports that no reason has been given for the removal of the Lagos-based auto trader but this may be with “allegations of high-handedness and rituals, culminating in endless litigations and security harassment.’’ (NAN)
