Over 2,000 IDPs to benefit from agric empowerment in Bauchi

Bauchi, Jan.10, 2017 (NAN) The Bauchi State Fadama III programme would empower about 2,860 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across 20 Local Government Areas in the state through provision of agricultural inputs.
The state coordinator of the programme, Mr Ali Garba, made this known on Tuesday during a sensitisation workshop organised for IDPs in Bauchi.
He said that the gesture was aimed at assisting the IDPs to go back to farm and improve their standard of living.
According to him, it would also equip beneficiaries towards reviving their farming activities.
Garba said that 14 facilitators were to coordinate the empowerment activities, adding that 40 IDPs would be selected from 67communities in the state.
He said that training would last for 20 months.
The coordinator said that modern farming inputs and techniques with improved seedlings would be distributed to beneficiary in other to achieve the set goal.
Speaking on mines and security, the Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Police, Bauchi State Command, Mr Haruna Mohammed, said that the dangers of mines could not be overemphasised as IDPs were gradually returning to their settlement.
Mohammed said explosives designed were to be detonated by the security agents in order to prevent injuries from the explosion.
He listed the signs of land mines as trip or naked wire and cables in used building, unused path/roads among others.
He, therefore, cautioned members of the public to report any suspicious act in their communities to security organisations.
The chairman of IDPs in Bauchi, Mr Buba Musa, appreciated the initiatives of Fadama III in the state, adding that such empowerment programme would bring back livelihoods amongst IDPs.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that kits were distributed to the facilitators containing farm booth, canvas, safety jackets bush tent and other equipment. (NAN)
