Lagos, Dec. 22, 2016 (NAN) For allegedly absconding with a N1.3 million bus on hire purchase, a 26-year-old businessman, Igbeleke Ologun, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ologun, a resident of Ipaja, Lagos, is being tried for fraud and stealing.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, the accused committed the offences in the month of March 2014 at Otitoloju Str., Ipaja, Lagos.
Nwosu said the accused fraudulently obtained a bus valued at N1.3 million, property of one Mr Oluwashola Kusimo, under the pretence of paying in instalments.
“The accused collected the Dodge Ram bus from the complainant, with a promise of remitting N80, 000 every month, into his account.
“But immediately the bus was released to him, he disappeared with it to an unknown destination, switched off his phone so that the complainant will not be able to contact him,” he said.
Nwosu said that the accused was arrested after two years of his disappearance, but could not produce the bus.
“The accused was later arrested after two years of his disappearance but could neither produce the money nor the bus,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 312 prescribes 15 years jail term for convicted offenders.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mr A. A. Adesanya, adjourned the case to Jan. 23, for mention. (NAN)
