Damaturu, Dec. 22, 2016 (NAN) A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), The Christaphen Blinding Mission, has distributed food, non-food items and medical support to 550 households of disabled Internally displaced Persons in Yobe.
Mr Elisha Agagok, National Programme Officer of the group, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu that the mission presented the materials to the beneficiaries in Katarko village on Thursday.
Agagok said that the mission provided each of the 550 households with a package comprising rice, beans, maize, Millet, sugar, Noodles, Blankets, cooking pots and vegetable oil.
He said the mission deliberately focused on disabled internally displaced persons to ensure that they were carried along.
“We have placed priority to support group of persons who have physical challenges and displaced by insurgency,” he said.
Similarly, the mission, Agagok said, had screened and supported displaced persons with psychological disorder, arising from the insurgency attacks.
The official said the mission had identified over 100 persons with traces of mental health challenges, severe depression and trauma and provided them with drugs and psycho education therapy.
Alhaji Bulama Lawan, the Village Head of Kukareta, commended the mission for recognising the physically challenged and weak IDPs.
NAN also reports that the blind, lame, deaf and aged persons from 550 households benefited from the mission. (NAN)
