    US to partners Nigerian Governors to strengthen security

    Dutse, June 9 2017 (NAN) The American Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Stuart Synington said that US is working with the Nigerian Governors Forum to strengthen security and enhance economic development in their states.

    Synington made this known when he paid a courtesy visit on Gov. Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa in Dutse on Friday.

    He said that the collaboration between US and the governors will strengthen economic, political, security and cultural relationship between the US and Nigerian government.

    The diplomat pledged that the US would work with the Nigerian government in all sectors of human endeavours with a view to boost the development of the country.

    Responding, Gov. Badaru commended the US Government on its development projects in Nigeria through its development agencies like the USAID.

    Badaru pointed out that the US Government has achieved a lot in the areas of health, education, agriculture, economy, information and communication, water sanitation, among others through its donor agencies.

    He appealed to the ambassador to bring more developmental projects to the state through partnership.

    The governor specifically mentioned projects like the girl child education, maternal and child health care among others.

    The governor pledged that the Jigawa government will give the US government all the necessary support and cooperation in all its programmes in the state. (NAN)

  • Pensions board pays N435.7m to beneficiaries in Jigawa

    Dutse, May 23, 2017 (NAN) The Jigawa Local and State Government Contributory Pensions Board, said it had paid N435. 7 million as benefits to those who died or retired from service between April 2017 and May 2017.

    The Executive Secretary of the board, Alhaji Suleiman Kiyawa, made this disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Tuesday.

    He explained that four categories of people benefited from the payment; the first being 218 workers, who spent 35 years in service or attained 60 years of age; received N273.7 million as gratuity.

    “The second category involves 86 persons, who did not reach 35 years in service, who collected N129. 2 million and 37 people, deceased workers, who their next of kin collected N27. 352 million as benefits.

    “The last category of beneficiaries involves those who retired but did not contribute up to the required mandatory period of five years, who collected N1. 441 million,’’ he said.

    According to Kiyawa, the board is not indebted to any retired civil servant, whether dead or alive, who left the service of Jigawa State Government.

    He lauded the state governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru for the prompt payment of gratuity and pension to retired civil servants, and pledged to cooperate with the board. (NAN)

    Dutse, May 5, 2017 (NAN) The new Dan Ammanar Dutse, Alhaji Nasiru Dano, says Nigeria should remain an indivisible entity for unity and development.

    Dano made the call during interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Dutse after he was turbaned as the Dan Ammanar Dutse at the Emir’s Palace on Friday.

    He said Nigerians must learn to love and tolerate one another irrespective of their ethnic, religious and geo political differences so that they could achieve their development aspirations.

    Dano, who is an international business man and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said he decided to take the title as a way of forging unity and cooperation amongst his people.

    The title “Dan Ammar Dutse” means man of integrity and honesty. Dano pledged to be a bridge builder between his people and the rest of the world.

    He said he felt highly honored that the Emir of Dutse Alhaji Muhammadu Sunusi could find him worthy of the title, saying he would use his experience and wealth to touch the lives of people in Dutse Emirate and beyond.

    The News Agency of Nigeria reports that people from various walks of life attended the turbaning, and these included the Governors of Bauchi, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar, Plateau, Mr Simon Lalong, Minister of Transport , Mr Rotimi Amaechi, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunnusi and the Long Gomai of Shendam, Plateau, Mr Martins Sheldas.     Dutse, May 2, 2017 (NAN) A Jigawa Chief Magistrate Court on Tuesday remanded the immediate past governor of the state, Alhaji Sule Lamido, in prison till May 4, for alleged incitement.
    Chief Magistrate Muhammad Lamin refused the accused bail and adjourned the case till May 4, for the continuation of the case.
    Lamido is standing trial on a four-count charge of inciting public disturbance, defamation of character, criminal intimidation and disturbance of public peace.
    The offences contravened sections 113, 114, 392 and 394 of the Penal Code.
    His counsel Yakubu Ruba and Felix Jones said that the offences were bailable and wondered why the court did not grant the accused bail.
    Lamido was arrested by the police in Kano on Sunday for the offences. (NAN)

    Dutse, April 14, 2017 (NAN)The Jigawa government has intensified efforts to combat any  outbreak of Cebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) across the state,  Deputy Governor Ibrahim Hadejia has said.

    Hadejia told newsmen on Friday that the state government has concluded plans and acquired enough drugs in case of outbreak of meningitis.

    The deputy governor said that the state government has also commenced public enlightenment campaign on the prevention of the disease.

    He advised the people to avoid sleeping in crowded rooms and to always live their doors and windows open to allow for enough ventilation.

    Hadejia urged the people to report any sign of outbreak of meningitis to the nearest health facility close to them for necessary action.

    He said that meningitis is associated with hot period and therefore urged the people not to engage in self-medication, but report any sickness to the nearest hospital for prompt medical attention.

    NAN reports that on April 7, the state announced the discovery of five cases of CSM in four local government areas of the state, with one person reported dead and four on admission.

    Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abba Zakari, who disclosed this to newsmen, said the state had adopted urgent measures to curtail the spread of the disease, following reported cases in some states and the neighbouring Niger Republic.

    He said the affected councils are Kirikasamma, Kiyawa, Gwaram and Maigatari.

    Dutse, March 6, 2017 (NAN) The jigawa state government has settled backlog of scholarships allowance amounting to N153million for students studying in various tertiary institutions within and outside the country.
    The Executive secretary of the state Scholarships Board, Ahaji Babandi Abubakar, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Thursday.
    He said that the state had over 10,000 of its students studying in the country and abroad, adding that no Jigawa student on government sponsorship studying abroad was being owed any allowance.
    ” We will continue to settle scholarships allowance to indigenes studying in foreign countries as against the action of some states that withdrew their students due to the economic recession,” said Abubakar.

    Meanwhile, Yobe Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam has approved the sum of over N417 million for payment of scholarships to 21, 109 students in 50 institutions of higher learning across the country.

    Dutse, April 3, 2017 (NAN) The Jigawa Police Command has arrested two suspects, Sunday Lawrence, 25 years, and Shuaibu Abdullahi, 27, with 462 kilogrammes of Indian hemp worth N4.5million.

    Mr. Rasheed Akintunde, the Commissioner of Police (CP) in Jigawa, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday as part of the command’s achievements for March 2017 in Dutse.

    Akintunde said that the police intercepted the items from the arrested suspects in Mallam Madori Local Government Area of the state.

    He explained that the Indian hemp was found inside a vehicle with registration number XB 572 AKK during a stop-and-search on vehicles plying the Mallam Madori – Yobe Highway by some policemen from the state command.

     

    The CP said that investigations revealed that the suspects loaded the substance from Kwanar Ganduje in Kano State en-route Mallam Madori Local Government for sale in Gashua in Yobe.

    “After a serious scrutiny of the substances compressed into hard plates by the suspects, we discovered them to be Indian hemp.

    “Our investigations revealed that that the substances were worth N4.5 million,”

    Akintunde said that the case had been transferred to the National Drug Law Enforce Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation,(NAN)

    Dutse, March 28 2017 (NAN) The Jigawa Coordinator of International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Alhaji Umar Danzomo, says that the agency will provide  agricultural equipment for 54 youths in the state.

    Danzomo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Tuesday that the beneficiaries comprised 27 males and 27 females drawn from nine local government areas having partnership with IFAD

    He said that the men would be provided with rice threshers, combined harvesters parboiling and wheat processing machines while the women would get ground oil processing, milling and cake-making machines.

    He said that the gesture was part of IFAD’s corporate social responsibility to the benefiting communities.

    According to Danzomo, the benefitting Jigawa communities are Dutse, Buji, Garki, Taura , Gwiwa, Guri, Auyo Birniwa and Birninkudu. (NAN)

    Dutse, March 8, 2017 NAN) Jigawa Government has pledged to build a 300-bed capacity prison in Dutse, the state capital.

    The Controller of Prisons in Jigawa, Alhaji Magaji Abdullahi, disclosed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Wednesday.

    Abdullahi said that Gov. Muhammadu Badaru also promised to construct new building to decongest the old colonial prison built in 1936 in Dutse.

    He said that if the building of the new prison edifice becomes a reality, the prison will be relocated from its present site to Limawa Warwade Road.

    The controller said that the new prison would contain educational and recreational facilities and a workshop for training of inmates.

    According to him, the intervention by the state government had become necessary because about 75 per cent of the inmates are indigenes of Jigawa.

    Abdullahi stated that arrangements were on to partner with the state government on agriculture.

    He said that this would make the prison inmates robust and vibrant so that after serving their jail terms they would be useful to themselves.

    Abdullahi pledged to transform the prison service in the state into an efficient and professional organisation with respect for human dignity.

    He commended Badaru for the reconstruction of Babura Satellite Prison, reconstruction of Juvenile Centre at Babara, sinking of boreholes in some prisons formation across the state among others. (NAN)

    Dutse, March 2, 2017 (NAN) Contractors handling Federal Government’s housing estate in Dutse, Jigawa, have been given 14 weeks to complete the project.

    Mr Chiambe Felix, the Controller, Federal Ministry of Works, Power and Housing, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Dutse.

    Felix explained that the Federal Government awarded contracts for the construction of housing estates in the 36 states capitals in 2016, but due to the economic recession, the project could not take off immediately.

    He said that the contractors handling the Dutse project were mobilised to site and were working assiduously to complete the project.

    The controller said that the contractors were expected to construct 48 units of two bedroom semi detached bungalows and 24 units of three bedroom semi detached bungalows within the stipulated period.

    According to him, the project which is a pilot scheme, will be extended to the 774 local government areas of the country.

    He added that architects, structural engineers, civil engineers, town planners, surveyors, and other professionals were on site supervising the project to ensure that the contractors execute the work according to specifications.

    Felix, however, warned that the Federal Government would not accept any job that was of poor quality or failed to meet specifications. (NAN)
