    Dutse, Sep 27, 2018 (NAN) Senate President, Bukola Saraki told supporters of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Dutse on Thursday ahead of the Presidential Primaries that he did not come to Jigawa for any campaign.
    Saraki, also a presidential aspirant under the platform of the PDP said that he came to the state to greet the people of his party to say “Thank You.”
    The Senate Preident was accompanied on the visit by Sen. Dino Meleye (Kogi), Ubale Shitu (Jigawa) and many PDP chieftains across the country.
    Saraki later drove on a convoy to Bamaina, country home of former Jigawa Gov., Alhaji Sule Lamido who is also a presidential aspirant for a closed door meeting.
    Earlier in an address in Jigawa, PDP Chairman, Alhaji Salisu Kuit welcomed Saraki to the state and called on all the PDP Presidential aspirants to cooperate with one another to ensure the success of the party in the upcoming polls. (NAN)

  • NIRSAL organises workshop for farmers on risk management

    Dutse,  Sept. 27, 2018 (NAN) The Nigerian Incentive Risk Sharing System (NIRSAL)  has organised a two-day workshop for farmers in risk management and farm record keeping for stakeholders in agricultural value chain in Dutse, Jigawa.

    Mr David Akande, the Head of NIRSAL in the state, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Thursday.

    Akande said that NISIRSAL was a subsidiary of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) which was also giving loans and other interventions to farmers, especially on agricultural value chain programmes.

    He said that the workshop was also meant to teach farmers ways to use modern technology on risk management and farm record keeping,

    “We are organising the training from producers, distributors down to consumers on agricultural value chain programmes.

    Alhaji Abubakar Bello, the NIRSAL Field Officer in the state, said that about 27,000 farmers were  expected to benefit from the training programmes. (NAN)

    Dutse, Sept. 25, 2018 (NAN) Alhaji Ibrahim Iro, the Director of National Population Commission (NPC) in Jigawa on Tuesday says the commission is targeting 223,660 children for issuance of birth certificates in the state.

    Iro told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse that 99, 561 certificates would be issued to children under one year while 124,099 would also be issued to children under five.

    “The exercise is like litmus test to how the commission will cope with issuance of birth and death certificates to people in the state.

    “It is through this exercise that we will be able to asses our ability and challenges and how to overcome the challenges.

    “We are going to start with seven selected local governments across the state,” he said.

    Iro appealed to parents to present their children for the birth certificate in view its importance.

    “For instance the birth certificate is used for the children identity, admission into primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, employment among others’’. (NAN)

    Dutse, Sept. 24, 2018 (NAN) A PDP presidential aspirant and former Senate President, David Mark, says he will support any aspirant that wins the party’s presidential primaries scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt, Rivers.

    Mark stated this on Monday in Dutse, Jigawa capital, when he addressed party supporters.

    He solicited the support of the party members and urged them to give him their mandate during the primaries to enable him to fly the party’s flag in the 2019 general election.

    “I am an aspirant seeking for your support but if I do not get it I am still ready to support anybody that emerges as candidate.

    We will struggle and get back power from the All Progressives People Congress (APC).

    “Power comes from God; I have never left PDP. I will continue to be in PDP because it is the only party that can bring development in Nigeria,” he said.

    Earlier in a speech, the PDP Chairman in Jigawa, Alhaji Salisu Kuit, said that the party supporters in the state were behind Mark’s aspiration.

    “This is because you are a fine politician, a gentleman and a detribalised person who performed excellently during your tenure as Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

    “We would have given you our automatic ticket but Lamido is also contesting; however we are all one family and we will continue to be one family one,” he said. (NAN)

  • New Minimum Wage: Jigawa Govt. will pay whatever committee agrees

    Dutse, Sept. 23, 2018 (NAN) Gov. Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa has pledged to pay the new minimum wage that is agreed upon by the tripartite committee constituted by the Federal Government

    The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Jigawa chapter, Malam Usman Ya’u made the disclosure in Dutse on Sunday.

    Ya’u said that in spite of the impasse in the committee’s meeting that led to the national leadership of the NLC giving a 14-day ultimatum which started on Sept. 12, to the tripartite committee to finish its assignment and announce a new minimum wage.

    “I am, however, glad to assure the workers in Jigawa that the state government, led by Gov. Muhammadu Badaru, has expressed readiness to pay whatever is agreed upon by the committee,’’ he said.

    The chairman said that labour was not happy with the delay on the issue of new minimum wage, particularly since the tripartite committee was set up in 2017 and held the public hearings in the six geo-political zones.

    Ya’u said that in view of the ultimatum by labour to government, Jigawa Council of NLC will on Sept. 24 hold its executive council meeting to deliberate on the directives from the National Secretariat and other issues affecting workers. (NAN)

  • Flood: Monarch wants FG to include Jigawa among worst hit states

    Auyo (Jigawa) Sept. 23, (2018) Alhaji Umar Baffa, paramount ruler of Auyo Local Government in Hadejia Emirate, Jigawa, has called on the Federal Government to include Jigawa among the states that were recently devastated with flood.

    Baffa made the request in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in his palace in Ayo town on Sunday.

    He said the call was necessary in view of the devastation caused by the disaster in the entire area.

    He noted that many lives were lost while farmlands animals, schools, industries, government offices; were submerged by flood across Jigawa.

    “Nobody will know the degree of havoc done to us, unless someone comes and see the situation practically hence the need to include the state among the states that were devastated by flood became imperative.

    “For instance here in Auyo, the flood has submerged the biggest and oldest primary school built by the colonial administration in 1930 where most of our prominent sons and daughters did their elementary school.

    “The road that linked us with Kafin Hausa, headquarters of kafin Hausa Local Government of the state and even beyond was cut off by the flood.

    “People from other places cannot come to us and we cannot go to them because we are completely cut off from each other.

    “As you can see the whole of my domain is completely submerged, many lives, farmlands and property were lost to flood.

    “We really thanked the state government for the palliatives and quick intervention over the situation.

    “This problem is beyond our state, we are appealing to the federal government through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to please come to our rescue.

    “We are also appealing to Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and other relevant agencies, local and international to please assist us.

    “As you can observe people have deserted this area taking refuge in various internally Displaced Camps (IDPs) around the state because of the pathetic situation.

    “If we get assistance, people will definitely come back and start a new life, we are agrarian settlement noted for wet and dry season farming.” he explained.

    Meanwhile the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Jigawa has sympthised with victims of flood disaster across the state.

    In a statement made available to NAN in Dutse on Sunday, the NLC chairman Malam Usman Yau prayed for the repose of those who died in the disaster and the families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

    “May the Almighty Allah give the families of the deceased the courage and fortitude to bear the great loss, ” the NLC chairman said.

    He also appealed to the State, Federal and NGOs to come to the aid of the victims of the flood disaster in the state, (NAN)

  • Flood: Monarch weeps as town goes under water

    Auyo (Jigawa), Sept. 22, 2018 (NAN) The District Head of Auyo in Jigawa, Alhaji Umar Baffa,  wept openly on Saturday over the devastation caused by flood in Auyo town and other villages in the district.

    Baffa, who holds the title of Sarkin Auyon Hadejia, said at his palace that the flood, caused by the overflow of Hadeja-Jamaare River, completely submerged the town and neighbouring communities.

    “Three of my people died and properties worth N3.5 billion were lost in the flooding that submerged the town and some villages in my domain.

    “ For two days water was overflowing from the Hadejia-Jama’are River to Auyo, and before we could do anything, the water submerged the town and the neighbouring villages.

    “The villages included Jura, Rafeji, Uza, Gamakwai, Zabaro, Ayama among others.

    “In the process, three people got missing and we immediately put up a search team and their bodies were later found.

    “Many houses, farmlands, animals and other properties were destroyed during the flooding,” the monarch said.

    A businessman, Alhaji Isa Auyo, who lost 10 trailer loads of fertilizer, said it was a devastating experience.

    “You can see the whole town is submerged; all the people have deserted the town and are now taking refuge in various Internally Displaced Person (IDPs) camps across the state.

    “I am really worried about the plight of the people and I appeal to the government, individuals and corporate organisations to rescue us from this catastrophe.

    He said that the state government had already undertaken an assessment of the damage and brought food and medicines.

    The businessman Auyo added: ”This is not the first time we are experiencing this episode in Auyo town,  we had similar incident in 2001, but the current one is more devastating.

    “I am appealing to the Federal Government to look into ways of tacking this recurring phenomena.

    “We were told that the water was from River Congo which overflowed through Cameroon to Lake Chad Basin causing havoc in many places in Nigeria.

    “I urge the federal government to do something to control the water so that that it can pass through our rivers with low velocity without causing any harm to us.

    “I also want the Federal Government to include Jigawa among the 11 states where a state of emergency was declared over flooding.” (NAN)

  • NCC urges customers to use 622 Toll-Free Lines to lodge complaints

    Kazaure (Jigawa) Sept. 21, 2018 (NAN ) The National Communications Commission (NCC) says it has developed the 622 Toll-Free Line through which customers can easily lodge their complaints.
    Alhaji Ismail Adedigba, the NCC Deputy Director , Customer Services, disclosed this during a Town Hall Meeting with Telecommunications  service Providers and customers in Kazaure town, headquarters of Kazaure local government of Jigawa on Friday.
    Adedigba explained that the commission has also developed 2442 NDD short code to solve  the problem of unsolicited text messages and calls.
    He stated that the commission had also issued directive to service providers to desist from force/automatic renewal of data services without the prior consents of subscribers.
    “We have done that and that has actually taken effect from May 21, 2018,
    “We need to emphasise here that failure to comply with the above directive will attract penalties and sanctions from the commission,” he said.
    NAN reports that during the meeting, many customers complained of poor network services provided by telecommunication providers which affects their daily activities.
    They appealed to service providers to redouble their efforts in providing some services as part of their corporate social responsibility to the people.
    On their part, the service providers promised to obey the laid down rules and regulations of the commission and live up to the expectations of their clients to ensure effective service delivery. (NAN)

  • NYSC boss cautions Corps members againstu careless usage of social media

    Dutse, Sep 17, 2018 (NAN) Alhaji Ibrahim Muhamad, state Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Jigawa, on Monday, warned corps members to avoid careless usage of the social media,  as it could  endanger their service.

    Muhammad gave the warning during the combined passing out Parade (POP) of Batch B stream two, of NYSC members for Jigawa and Yobe state, at the Gen.Yakubu Gowon Camp, Dutse.

    “I urge you to intellectually and carefully use the social media, as careless usage of it will endanger your service year.

    “As you are prepared to start your service year, let it be known that the issue of discipline shall not be compromised in any way.

    “It is exceptionally important that you adhere strictly to the NYSC rules and regulations which have been codified in the NYSC laws presented to you.

    “My dear corps members, I am happy to inform you that the people of Jigawa state are hospitable, peace- loving and always ready to show love and tolerance to all sundry.

    “These good people are genuinely excited and willing to receive you in their midst.

    “To corps members posted to Yobe, I want to assure you that despite the security challenges, government is working assiduously to secure lives and property of citizens, especially corps members.

    “I wish the 1135 corps members deployed to Jigawa and the 776 corps members deployed to Yobe state a successful service after this orientation. God bless all of you.” he said.

    In his address at the occasion, the Jigawa Governor Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru represented by the Secretary to the State Government, AlhajI Adamu Fanini, congratulated the corps members for their successful orientation.

    The governor urged the corps members to: “interact with their host communities, appreciate their culture, learn their language and avoid indulgence in any vices”.

    Badaru urged the corps members to demonstrate the ideals on which the orientation was predicated and designed, to make them leaders of tomorrow.
    Mrs Grace Adzer, NYSC Coordinator for Yobe assured the corps members deployed to her state that their lives and property would be secured despite the security challenges in the area. (NAN)

    Jigawa spends N8bn on school projects

    Dutse, Aug. 16, 2018 (NAN) The Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board has spent eight billion naira on various projects in primary and secondary schools in the state.

    The Chairman of the board, Ahaji Salisu Zakar, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Thursday.

    He explained that 50 per cent of the amount was spent on new projects, 40 per cent on renovations, eight per cent on furniture and two per cent on logistics.

    The chairman explained that money used for the projects was sourced from the Universal Basic Education Commission.

    Zakar said that many new classroom blocks were built and that existing ones were renovated.

    “It will interest you to know that you will meet many of our children sitting down on bare floor in schools but now we have changed the system.

    “You will meet only 30 to 35 pupils or students in a classroom.

    “The state government has also built 140 houses in the hard-to-reach areas to make teachers to stay among residents of the communities,” Zakar said.
