Welder in court over alleged stealing of 2 iron doors worth N80,000

Lagos, Oct. 20, 2017 (NAN) A 41-year-old welder, Wasiu Alowole, was on Friday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing two iron doors valued at N80,000.
Alowole, who residential address was not stated, is being tried for stealing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, said that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 7, at Ayobo-Ipaja, Lagos.
He said that the accused stole two iron doors valued at N80,000, property of Mr Shamusideen Abudullahi.
“The accused carted away the complainant’s doors,” he said.
Egunjobi said that the accused came in a motorcycle to steal the doors.
“The accused brought a motorcycle and tied the doors to it, after he left, the complainant received a tip-off from an informant that his doors have been stolen.
“The informant gave the direction and the complainant quickly alerted the police because two of his doors were stolen in September.
“The accused was traced and arrested in Dopemu with the stolen doors,” he said.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years jail term for stealing.
The accused denied committing the offence and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.I. Raji, said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until Oct. 31 for mention. (NAN)
