Abuja, March 10, 2017 (NAN) Emmanuel Okwudili, Coach of the National Cricket team says only players that are fit will make the 16-man list in preparation for the Africa Division One Qualifier in South Africa.
Okwudili, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja, said that the players needed to be on-top form to scale through the trials scheduled for April 7 to April 10.
“The level of competition outside the country is very high and we need people that can play at top level.
“Fitness is important to ensure better performance, if you are not fit you are not going to be among the selected 16 players.
“Another thing is the way you approach your baking. You need to build partnership, because when you build partnership you drive your team to victory.
“I urge all players in these trials to apply 70 per cent of their skills and fitness to be able to make the list,’’ he said.
Okwudili said that the country’s participation in the Africa Division One Qualifier was to get the qualification.
According to him, we are not just going to participate in the competition, but we are going to qualify for the competition.
Okwudili said the trials were a blend of young players and experienced players.
He said the young players needed to learn the skills and techniques of the game from the experienced players.
NAN reports that 23 players had been invited to camp ahead of the four-day trials. (NAN)
