Defilement

Lagos, March 10, 2017 (NAN) A 20-year- old laboure, Tosin Kayode, who allegedly attempted to defile an 11-year-old girl, was on Friday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, who resides at Railway Line in the Agege area of Lagos State, is facing a charge of attempted rape.
The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 26 at Idi field, Agege, Lagos.
Ogu said the accused bought a sachet of pure water from his victim and asked her to follow him to a field nearby to collect her money.
“When they got to the field, the accused grabbed her and tried to rape her but was saved by a passerby,’’ he said.
“The accused was apprehended and taken to the police station,” he said.
The offence contravened Section 404 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to March 27, for mention. (NAN)
