Lagos, March 10, 2017 (NAN) A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced a 28-year-old man, Musa Dunga, to three years imprisonment for trafficking in psychotropic substances including Tramadol and Rophynol.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had slammed a three-count charge of drug trafficking on Dunga.

The drugs are Tramadol, Rophynol (a rape drug) and Diazapam,  all classified by the agency as restricted psychotropic substances.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dunga was first arraigned on July 26, 2016 before Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, and had pleaded guilty to the charges.

The convict was, however, re-arraigned before a new judge, Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo, who replaced the former judge.

After his re-arraignment, the convict again pleaded guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, consequently reviewed the facts of the case before the court, and tendered the convict’s statement, a request for scientific aid form, and a drug analysis form.

He also tendered in evidence the remnants of the psychotropic substances before the court.

These evidences were accordingly admitted by the court and marked as exhibits.

Delivering her judgment, Justice Oguntoyinbo found the accused guilty as charged.

She sentenced him to a three-year imprisonment on each count, adding that the terms shall run concurrently.

The convict committed the offence on June 4, 2016 at Apapa as about 2 kg of Tramadol, 58.2 grammes of Rophynol, and about 24 grammes of Diazapam were recovered from him.

The offences contravened Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004. (NAN)
