Adamawa teachers offer special prayers

Yola, Feb. 7, 2017 (NAN) Teachers in Adamawa on Tuesday offered special prayers against insurgency, kidnappings and religious intolerance.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the teachers also prayed for peace, unity and progress of its members.

The state Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Mr Rodney Nathan, said the prayer session was a yearly event organised to seek divine intervention in the union’s activities for the year.

Nathan urged teachers in Adamawa to remain committed to their job and support government to succeed in transforming education.

The state government had declared a state of emergency in the education sector.

Nathan  urged  the state government to accord priority attention to teachers’ welfare, if it must succeed in transforming education in the state.

“We have problem of dilapidated schools, backlog of leave grants and promotions that need to be addressed urgently.

“However, we must commend the government for paying our three months’ salary arrears with the Paris Club
refund.

“We appeal to the government to complete the remaining one month as soon as possible.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Christian and Muslim clerics who prayed at the event asked for God guidance and protection of all categories of the union’s leadership, for effective service delivery.

They also prayed for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari and God’s guidance for all leaders in the country. (NAN)
