Woman remanded in prison for allegedly receiving stolen cell phone

Akure, Feb. 8, 2017 (NAN) A 25-year-old woman, Gloria Onome, was remanded in prison custody on Wednesday by an Akure Magistrates’  Court  for  alleged conspiracy and receiving of   a stolen handset.

The Prosecutor, ASP Zakari Ibrahim, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 13, 2016 at about 1.20 a.m.  at No. 1,  Fagbemi Lane, Oba-Ile, Akure.

“She conspired with others at large, and unlawfully received one Infinix Hot Note handset from one Emmanuel Paul, who is still at large,  knowing it was stolen,”  Ibrahim said.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 6(b), and 5 respectively of the Armed Robbery and Firearms Special Provision Act Cap R11 Laws of the Federation , 2004.

Ibrahim urged the court to remand the accused person in prison custody pending receipt of legal advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The Magistrate, Miss May Fadoju, who adjourned the case till  Feb. 28, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison  pending  the receipt of  legal advice from the DPP.  (NAN)
