Lafia (Nasarawa State), Aug. 17, 2017 (NAN) The Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions (JUTI) has called on the Nasarawa State Government to enrol its workers in the contributory pension scheme.
The Chairman of the union, Mr Ariks Bashayi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia on Thursday that the call became necessary in view of the problems that had beset the existing pension scheme.
“Under the current pension scheme, a lot of our staff who retired from service more than five years ago have not been able to receive pension or gratuity,” he explained.
Bashayi also urged the managements of all the Nasarawa state-owned tertiary institutions to allow their workers to join the contributory pension scheme.
The College of Education Akwanga (COEA); State Polytechnic Lafia; College of Agriculture Lafia; and Nasarawa State Unversity in Keffi are some of the state-owned tertiary institutions.
The chairman of the union appealed to the state government to increase the staff strength of all the state-owned tertiary institutions as it would go a long way toward enhancing the quality of education.
He further appealed to the government to promote staffers of the institutions whose promotion was long overdue.
He urged the government to also settle the staffers all outstanding allowances in order to ensure industrial harmony. (NAN)
