Akwanga (Nasarawa State) Aug. 17, 2017(NAN) Rev. Jerry Madibo, the President, Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ (ERCC) has called on politicians and other prominent Nigerians to shun hate speeches, to avoid divisions and chaos in the society.

Madibo, who made the call in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, stressed the need to avoid such utterances, especially now that the 2019 general elections draw near.

“Whatever position they are looking for, they should do it in such a way that will not create confusion, division and hatred among the people, and they should avoid hate speeches and negative utterances.

“And they should always seek the will of God in whatever they are doing because power is given by God.

“Hate speeches and negative utterances are capable of creating conflicts and crisis in the society,” he said.

The ERCC president reminded them that God gives power to whosoever he desires and further admonished them to eschew acts that were inimical to the country’s electoral process.

On the ongoing continuous voter registration, the cleric called on Nigerians, particularly those from the age of 18 and above to register, so as not to be disenfranchised.

He also called the Independent Electoral Commission to put in place measures that would ensure free, fair and credible elections in 2019.

The cleric also urged Nigerians to pray for the peace and unity of the nation, as well as for leaders at all level, adding that no nation achieve meaningful progress in an atmosphere of confusion.

Madibo said that the church would not relent in promoting peace and mutual relationship among the people. (NAN)
