Ikorodu (Lagos State), April 27, 2018 (NAN) An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday granted bail to an underage school dropout charged with stealing an international passport, six phones and N20,000.

The teenager, whose address was not given, is facing a count charge but he pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mr W. B. Balogun, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

Balogun held that the sureties must include the teenager’s parent, who must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until May 5 for mention.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. John Iberedem, told the court that the 14-year-old committed the offence on March 19 at No. 5, Omololu St., Ajegunle, Ikorodu.

Iberedem said that the underage  stole the international passport,  the phones worth N148, 000, and money  from Mr Olaleye Oladimeji.

He told the court that Oladimeji had hired the underage  to assist him in moving  his property to a new location.

“The accused stole a bag which contained those items but the complainant discovered later and reported to the police.

“The accused confessed to the theft at the police station but the items have not been recovered from him,” Iberedem said.

He said that the offence contravened Sections 287 of the Lagos Criminal Code, Laws, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria  (NAN) stipulates three years’ imprisonment for stealing. (NAN)
