Man, 19, bags 9 months imprisonment for stealing battery

Ikeja, April 27, 2018 (NAN) An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced one Jide Agboke to nine months imprisonment for stealing a car battery valued at N25, 000.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A. Adegun, sentenced Agboke, 19, after he pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing.
Adegun, however, gave the convict an option of N30, 000 fine.
The convict, an applicant, whose address was not given, was tried for stealing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed on March 30 at Oloruntedo Street in Ipaja, near Lagos.
Ogu said that the accused was arrested by a team of policemen on night patrol.
“A car battery was found inside the polythene bag the accused was carrying and he told the policemen that he stole the battery from a Honda car parked along the street.
“The accused led the police to the car which was found to belong to one Mutiu Shomuyiwa,” Ogu told court.
He said the offence contravened Section 280 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
