Minna, June 13, 2017 (NAN) The Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger has engaged its councillors in their respective wards to mobilise residents over unclaimed 300 permanent voters’ cards in the area.
The council’s Vice-Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Kuta, made this known on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna.
Kuta said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed that about 300 permanent voters’ cards belong to residents of the area had yet to be claimed.
“The measure will also enable the councillors to mobilise those who had reached 18 years to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the area.
“I want to call on traditional and religious leaders as well as stakeholders to complement the efforts of the local council in mobilising the people to participate in the exercise,’’ he said.
Kuta said that permanent voters’ cards would enable the people to elect leaders of their choice.
He also appealed to media organisations to educate the society more on the benefits of participating in elections. (NAN)
