Washington, Feb. 13, 2017 (dpa/NAN) U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday received Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for talks expected to address the future of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) between the U.S, Canada and Mexico.

Trudeau is the third foreign leader to be welcomed at the White House since Trump took office on Jan. 20.

Trump met the Canadian leader at the White House door.

More than 75 per cent of Canadian exports went to the U.S. in 2016.

Trudeau said ahead of his visit that he would discuss “the fact that millions of good jobs on both sides of our border depend on smooth flow of goods and services across that border”.

He said they would discuss things the two disagree on, seen as a possible reference to Trump’s now blocked executive order suspending the U.S. refugee programme.

Banning Syrian refugees indefinitely and temporarily banning travellers from Muslim countries.

Trump’s policies on immigration, trade and inflammatory comments including a demand that Mexico pay for a border wall he plans to build, led to Mexican President Enrique Nieto cancelling a White House visit.

Trump hosted Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Friday at the White House, following a visit last month by British Prime Minister Theresa May. (dpa/NAN)
