Auto mechanic

Lagos, July 13, 2017 (NAN) A 19-year-old auto mechanic, Peter Okoro, is to spend the next three months at Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos,
for stealing phones and cash worth N200,000, an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court ruled on Thursday.
The court slammed the sentence on the phone thief without an option of fine after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Okoro had pleaded for leniency before he was sentenced.
Magistrate O.A. Layinka, who handed down the verdict, said:“Based on the facts of this case confirmed in the report and the
plea of leniency, I hereby sentence you to three months in prison without an option of fine.’’
Earlier, Police Prosecutor Donjor Perezi told court that Okoro, whose address is unknown, was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
Perezi said the accused stole two mobile phones and cash valued at N200,000 on May 2 at 2.05 p.m. at No. 52, New Ipaja Road,
Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.
The accused entered the shop of the complainant, Nelly Odudu, while she was asleep on the chair, grabbed her bag containing the
phones and money and ran away, he said.
He said the complainant, however, raised an alarm and the accused was apprehended by the complainant ‘s landlady and
her driver.
The offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
