Lagos, July 13, 2017 (NAN) Three drivers of Guinness Nigeria Plc, who allegedly stole assorted drinks valued at N150,000,
were on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused– Abiodun Awotayo, 42; Peter Ogunrinde, 27; and Gbenga Adebayo, 31 — who all reside at Agbado-Ijaye, a Lagos
suburb, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and breach of peace.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Joseph Ajebe told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 26 at Guinness Nigeria
Plc, Ogba
in Ikeja.
Ajebe said the accused were caught by some security men on duty while they were trying to escape with some cartons of Malta Guinness and some crates of different alcoholic drinks.
“They were immediately handed over to the police.”
The offences contravened Sections 168(d), 278 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be sentenced to seven years imprisonment on
conviction, according to Section 278.
The trio, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Alexander Komolafe, granted them bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each
in like sum.
Komolafe said the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and adjourned the case
until July 24 for mention. (NAN)
