Port Harcourt, Feb. 1, 2017 (NAN) The Rivers State Petroleum Task Force has restated its commitment to the partnership with relevant stakeholders in tackling illegal activities in oil in the state.
In a statement by its Secretary, Mr Ihunwo Obi-Wali, in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, it expressed worry over growing cases of illegal refining, bunkering and petrol installations vandalism in parts of the state.
It stated that it would ensure that anybody found culpable of petroleum-related crime in the state would be prosecuted.
It said that it was disturbing that those involved in the criminal activities were unperturbed about the danger their acts may have on the public and environment.
The task force cautioned petrol stations operators in the state against under-dispensing of petroleum products to members of the public.
It said that its special squads would soon commence field exercises aimed at sealing-off stations that were involved in unwholesome activities in the oil business, including adulteration of the products.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that illegally refined products, especially kerosene and diesel are being sold in containers in different parts of the state.
Analysts say that the recent surge in kerosene price lured many residents into patronizing illegal refineries for the purchase of kerosene at a relatively cheaper price. (NAN)
