    Kano, June 25,2024( NAN)  Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has approved the purchase of fertiliser worth about N5.07 billion to support smallholder farmers in the states

    This move aims to facilitate food sufficiency through massive agricultural transformation.

    According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, in Kano on Tuesday, the approval was given during the 15th State Executive Council (SEC) meeting.

    “The fertiliser will be distributed across the 44 Local Government Areas to support farmers, especially those in rural areas, to increase crop yields during the 2024 rainy season’’, he said.

    He explained that the fertiliser would be sold to farmers at a subsidised price, demonstrating the governor’s commitment to providing access to quality and affordable agricultural inputs.

    This move follows the governor’s previous purchase of grains worth billions of naira, distributed to vulnerable people in the state to alleviate hardship.( NAN) ( www.nannews.ng)

    Kano, June 24, 2024 (NAN) Salman Dogo, the new Commissioner of Police in Kano State, has promised to combat crimes and improve security of lives and property in the state.

    Dogo, who assumed the office on Monday in Kano, promised to initiate and implement security method that would enhance peaceful coexistence among the residents.

    “I appeal to residents to imbibe the spirit of volunteering credible information that could aid in apprehending bad characters in their midst.

    Earlier, outgoing Commissioner of police, Hussein Gumel, appealed to the officers and the public to support the new commissioner of police to succeed.

    Gumel, who is recently promoted to AIG, expressed gratitude to the Kano Police Command and urged continued support for the new commissioner of police.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists honoured Gumel with outstanding performance award while some police officers and philanthropists were also honoured for promoting peace. ( NAN) ( www.nannews.ng)

    Kano, June 24, 2024 (NAN) The police have deployed additional armed security personnel to the two palaces housing the contending emirs in the metropolitan Local Government Areas of Kano.
    The outgoing Commissioner of Police, AIG Usaini Gumel, confirmed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.
    Gumel said, “equipped and armed personnel have been deployed to handle any unforeseen circumstances around the identified areas.
    He explained that the deployment aims to prevent security threats and maintain peaceful atmosphere pending the outcome of the emirship tussle.
    AIG Gumel said that the  command has reinforced its personnel deployment plans to ensure adequate security and peaceful coexistence in the state.
    ” Armed personnel have been deployed to provide security at the Kofar Kudu Palace, residence of Emir Malam Mohammadu Sunusi, and the Nasarawa Mimi Palace, residence of Emir Aminu Bayero.
    The police appeal for public support and urge residents to provide information that could aid in maintaining peace, progress, and political stability.

    Kano, June 22,2024 (NAN) Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf of Kano State on Saturday directed security agencies to end thuggery bedevilling residents of Kano metropolis.
    Yusuf, who stated this during the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Kano, decried the recent surge in thuggery and clashes between miscreants locally called “Yan Daba” in parts of the metropolis.
    The governor said that his administration would not condone acts capable of disrupting the peace and security.
    He tasked Judges to ensure speedy and fair trial of the suspected thugs, and warned against the release of thugs who pose a threat to the residents.
    While charging security agencies to focus on their primary responsibility to protect lives and property, Yusuf urged the people to contribute towards maintaining law and order in the state. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

    Kano, June 20, 2024 (NAN) Some suspected hoodlums have unleashed mayhem on Jaen Makera quarters in Kano metropolis, killing one person and injuring two policemen.

    The outgoing Commissioner of police, AIG Usaini Gumel disclosed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Kano.

    He said that the suspects killed Muktar Garba, also known as Babalia during the incident.

    Gumel said that Garba died while receiving treatment at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist hospital, Kano, adding that his corpse has been released to his relatives for burial.

    The police boss said that the hoodlums who were carrying dangerous weapons defied police presence deployed to the area and started attacking innocent people.

    He said more reinforcement from the police tactical team and nearby divisions was deployed to the area and peace was restored as the hoodlums fled.

    The commissioner said that efforts are being intensified to identify and arrest the perpetrators.

    He said some other groups of hoodlums on Wednesday engaged in street fighting, using dangerous weapons at Yan Dillalai and Jaen Makera, but were dispersed by the police team.

    Gumel said the two policemen, SC Wasilu Umar and PC Abdulmalik Yusif, who were injured during the incident, were treated and discharged from the hospital.

    He said that a suspect, Umar Shuaibu was arrested for attacking Yusif , while  a vehicle attached to Filin Hockey was destroyed.

    The commissioner said that the command strives to address the underlying causes of violence, and promote lasting peace and well-being of all individuals affected.

    He said normalcy has returned to the area as police personnel are monitoring the situation.( NAN) ( www.nannews.ng)

    Kano, June 20, 2024( NAN) The Kano State Police Command has called on the public to remain peaceful and patriotic as the Federal High Court prepares to hear sensitive cases related to the Emirship tussle.
    This is contained in a statement issued by the command spokesman, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, in Kano on Thursday.
    Kiyawa reiterated the commitment of the command to protect lives and property, while warning against any attempt to incite violence.
    “In collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, the command will strictly enforce the ban on public protests, processions and unlawful gatherings imposed by the state government.
    “Violators and their sponsors will face legal consequences.
    “Adequate security personnel will be deployed to maintain law and order.
    “The public is urged to cooperate with the security forces and provide actionable information to preserve peace and detect deviants.
    “Non-state actors, including vigilantes and hunters, are advised to refrain from participating in security operations under any guise,” he said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

    Kano, June 18,2024 (NAN) The outgoing Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Mr Usaini Gumel, said on Tuesday in Kano that the command remained steadfast in maintaining law and order in the state.

    Gumel told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) during an interview that police and other security agencies would not be distracted from discharging their responsibilities to the people of the state.

    He warned against politicising the security situation in the state, urging every resident of the state to support the police in its duties.

    He told NAN that providing conducive atmosphere for law-abiding members of the public to carry out their legitimate activities was a priority to the personnel of the command.

    “We will remain focused on our mandate and will not be distracted from providing a peaceful atmosphere for residents”, said Gumel, an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).

    The police chief, therefore, urged the public to provide the police with necessary information towards identifying, apprehending and prosecuting criminal elements in the society.

    “We will not be distracted in the course of providing the platform for peaceful coexistence of the residents.

    “The Police Command and all heads of relevant security agencies appreciate the continuing stakeholders collective supports, advise and direction that keep us together in sustaining peace in the state”, he told NAN. ( NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

  • Kano govt. inaugurates 85km road, N21bn bridge in Madobi

    Madobi (Kano State), June 17, 2024 (NAN) Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has laid the foundation for an 85-kilometer road project worth about N21 billion in Madobi Local Government Area of the state.

    The governor said, at the inauguration of the project on Monday, that the project was poised to redefine rural landscapes and enhance the livelihoods of the populace.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 85 kilometers spans from Bridge Madobi to Madobi town, running through Yako to Kafin Mai Yaki, culminating in Kiru LGA.

    He explained that the project underscored the commitment to bolster transportation infrastructure, which was crucial for agricultural and economic growth in rural Kano.

    Additionally, the governor said a second project featuring a 15-kilometer road and a 200-metre bridge from Madobi Town to Kubarachi to Kura was also underway.

    “This will showcase the administration’s profound dedication to catalyzing progress across the semi-urban and rural areas,” he said.

    Yusuf articulated a bold timeline, while assuring completion of the projects within 18 and 24 months respectively.

    “My vision aims not only at bridging urban-rural divides but also cultivating sustainable economic pathways, thus curbing rural-urban migration and fostering prosperity in hinterlands,” he said.

    NAN reports that former Kano State Governor, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, commended the governor’s effort toward the project while applauding the electorate for choosing wisely in the previous election. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

    Kano, June 17,2024 (NAN) Sen. Rabi’u Kwankwaso, National Leader of New Nigeria Peoples Party ( NNPP) has lauded  Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State for his outstanding performance in first year of his stewardship in the state.
    The News Agency of Nigeria( NAN)  reports that Kwankwaso made the commendation on Monday during his Sallah homage to the governor at the  Government House, Kano.
    He  commended Yusuf’s administration’s dedication to advancing Education and women empowerment initiatives aimed at enhancing the lives of Kano State residents.
    The former governor of Kano State, expressed delight at  Yusuf’s commitment to empowering women with substantial support.
    He said that this was significant for rural entrepreneurship  and emphasised the importance of effective monitoring to ensure equitable distribution of empowerment grants.
    Kwankwaso called for enhanced efforts in security, empowerment of the less privileged and advancement of developmental projects.
    The NNPP leader assured the governor of his commitment as a stakeholder to provide valuable guidance and support to the government.

    Kano, June 17,2024 (NAN) The Police Command in Kano State has expressed displeasure  over the booing  entourage of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II by some individuals while he was returning to his palace after Eid prayers.

    This is contained in a Statement issued by the command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, in Kano on Monday.

    He said that, the incident occurred when the Emir took a different route, as part of his religious obligation.

    He said unfortunately, he was booed within the vicinity of Festival Primary School and Zage/Zango areas by some unidentified persons.

    “Currently, the police command is monitoring the entire Sallah events to ensure law and order are maintained, adequate security measures are in place to tackle any form of security threats.

    “Accordingly, the police command is warning individuals intending to cause chaos or breach the peace during the Sallah celebration to stay clear of the state’’, he said.

    The spokesman further stated that at the moment adequate security personnel had been deployed to arrest anyone attempting to cause a breakdown of law and order.

    The police warned members of the public to desist from carrying weapons during and after the celebration, saying that anyone found would meet stiff penalties.

    “Rigorous stop-and-search operations and patrols are ongoing in all Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the metropolitan area to ensure a peaceful celebration”, Kiyawa said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
