    Kano , June 30,2024( NAN) Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has expressed  dissatisfaction with the poor performance of the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) and the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA).

     

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Yusuf spoke during an unscheduled visit to the agencies, on Sunday.

    Yusuf was dismayed by the inefficient management of facilities and personnel.

    At REMASAB, he found only seven functional waste evacuation trucks out of 30, and only three pay loaders were operational out of 15.

    Additionally, he discovered that only 10 workers were permanent and pensionable, while the rest were casuals, a situation he deemed inhumane.

    At KAROTA, he found a significant number of operational vehicles grounded.

    The Governor directed the managements of both agencies to submit  comprehensive inventories of their equipment and vehicles.

    Yusuf expressed disappointment with the poor state of the facilities in spite of the government’s significant investment.

    The governor, therefore, vowed to overhaul the system, emphasizing the importance of effective performance in critical agencies like KAROTA and REMASAB.

    Consequently, the Managing Directors of both agencies were summoned for an emergency meeting with the Chief of Staff to address the challenges.( NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

    Kano, June 30,2024( NAN) Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has directed the office of the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice to block legal loopholes exploited by drug traffickers to escape justice.

    Yusuf spoke during a visit to the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) on Sunday.

    He said it was unfortunate that some drug traffickers seek and obtain court orders for the release of their confiscated illicit goods.

    Yusuf questioned the integrity of judges who sanction such requests saying their actions have severe implications for the society.

    He stressed the need for collaboration between the judiciary and the executive arms of government to protect the state from the dangers of drug trafficking.

    The governor commended KAROTA’s efforts at helping relevant authorities to arrest illicit drug dealers.

    He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to combating drug smuggling and pledged support to agencies fighting drug trafficking and abuse. (NAN)  (www.nannews.ng)

    Kano, June 28, 2024 ( NAN) United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has trained 30 staff of Borno College of Nursing and Midwifery on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) response in emergency situations.
    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training, held in Kano, was to enhance the capacity of faculty staff to provide effective services in crisis-affected areas.
    UNFPA’s Humanitarian Coordinator, Chris Sabun Macauley, emphasised the importance of targeting college personnel to impart knowledge to students.
    He explained that the training would enhance healthcare service delivery in the northeast region, which has been affected by crisis for over 15 years.
    “The training aims to achieve zero maternal death, zero GBV and address unmet reproductive health needs,” the coordinator said.
    The Provost of the college, Rukayya Shettima, commended UNFPA for the training, saying the knowledge gained is of immense benefit to staff and students of the college.
    She added that beneficiaries of the training would share their experiences with colleagues and students to achieve the set objectives.( NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

    Kano, June 27,2024( NAN)  Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State  has been honored with the ‘Courageous Governor of the Year Award’ by This Nigeria Newspaper.
    The award was presented during the newspaper’s 2024 annual lecture and awards ceremony, which marked 25 years of democratic governance in Nigeria.
    According to the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, the award followed a thorough evaluation of all the 36 State Governors in Nigeria.
    Yusuf received the award in recognition of his exceptional leadership and stewardship in Nigeria’s most populous state, in spite of facing various legal and political challenges.
    The Commissioner for Information Baba Halilu-Dantiye received the award on behalf of Yusuf, expressing confidence that the recognition would motivate the governor to continue demonstrating exemplary leadership.
    The award ceremony, held at the Yar’adua Centre in Abuja, also honoured the Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, as distinguished awardees.( NAN) ( www.nannews.ng)

    Kano, June 26,2024 (NAN) Vice-President Kashim Shettima says President Bola Tinubu is not working against the interests of Northern Nigeria.
    Shettima spoke on Wednesday in Kano while receiving a Federal Government’s delegation led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Bajabiamila, on a condolence visit over the death of his mother-in-law. Hajiya Maryam Abubakar.
    A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Correspondent in Kano quoted Shettima as praising Tinubu’s goodwill toward the region.
    The vice-president cited the appointment of the two Ministers of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Chairman of Police Service Commission, among others, all from the North, as evidence of the president’s commitment to the region’s growth.
    He, therefore,urged Nigerians to support  Tinubu’s efforts to make Nigeria great, emphasizing that governance transcends political party affiliations.
    Shettima stressed that the country’s unity and progress were more important than party differences.
    He cited the support he received from the Kano State Government, led by Gov. Abba  Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), during his time of bereavement.
    Shettima said that the country has moved beyond politics and was now in the act of governance, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to achieve greatness.
    He reminded that Nigeria’s greatness was a collective responsibility, and that political party affiliations should not be a yardstick for division and destruction.

    Kano, June 26,2024 ( NAN) Mr Salman Dogo, the new Commissioner of Police in Kano State, has appealed to the public to provide timely information to the police to help fight  crimes in the state.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dogo made the appeal while addressing newsmen at the command headquarters on Tuesday in Kano.

    He said that voluntary information from residents was crucial in identifying and apprehending suspicious individuals and curbing criminal acts.

    He said that the police have issued operational orders to Area commanders, and divisional police officers to effectively confront any form of security threats.

    Dogo urged stakeholders to support the police by mobilising residents to be security conscious and report dubious characters.

    He highlighted the importance of community policing and encouraged residents to come forward with information to aid in apprehending criminals.

     The commissioner reiterated the police’s commitment to securing lives and property, promising to reward hard working officers.

    Kano, June 26, 2024 (NAN) Kano State Government says it has invested N3 billion on classroom infrastructure development across the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

    Gov. Abba Yusuf stated this on Tuesday at a stakeholders meeting in Government House, Kano.

    He said that the project is  aimed at  creating a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning for citizens of the state.

    Yusuf explained that 17,000 security personnel will be employed across the state to ensure the safety of primary school facilities, with 400 personnel per local government.

    “The local security personnel will be employed from the locality where the primary schools are located to ensure effective service delivery,”he said.

    He said that each of the local government councils will receive N25 million for renovation, with the Universal Basic Education board supervising the project to ensure quality work.

    “This investment demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving education infrastructure and providing a better learning experience for students,“he said.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)

    Kano, June 25, 2024( NAN) Gov.Abba Yusuf of Kano State has paid  rent fees for Princess Zainab Ado Bayero, and her mother after they the Emir’s family alleged that they were being neglected by the authorities.

    Bayero’s daughter lives with her mother at Morning Side Suits, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    In a statement the Governor’s Director of Press, Sanusi Bature, on Tuesday in Kano, said the intervention came few hours to the lapse of the eviction notice served on the princess.

    Bature, said that already governor’s delegation had arrived Lagos to meet the apartment’s General Manager, Sunel Kumar, who had threatened to evict them by 3 pm on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

    “Princess Zainab had cried out for help in media, saying that they were neglected by the royal family following her father’s demise,’’ Bature said.

    Bature also said that the governor’s intervention was prompted by his concern that the situation did not reflect well on the integrity of royal family and Kano state.

    “The governor’s action was also driven by the fact that the Ado Bayero’s family members are in need and deserve support as Muslim sisters and brothers,’’ he said.

    Bature said the princess and her mother expressed gratitude to Yusuf for his timely intervention that saved them from embarrassment( NAN)www.nannews.ng)

    Kano, June 25, 2024 (NAN) Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has  called on donor agencies to report any breaches or anomalies in the implementation of projects in the state.

    Yusuf stated this at the inauguration of a programme on effective utilisation of International Development Funds (IDF) on Monday in Kano.

    The governor who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Shehu Sagagi, restated his administration’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption.

    The governor assured of his administration`s commitment towards ensuring accountability, and prompt execution of projects to benefit the people of the state.

    He encouraged donor agencies to report directly to him any breaches observed in project implementation.

    The Accountant General of the State, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, convener of the event, stressed the importance of effective utilization and implementation of IDF to achieve project deliverables within time, cost and scope.

    He said that the state has released N600 million as counterpart funding for new projects, highlighting the need for value for money and effective implementation.

    Kano, June 25, 2024 (NAN) Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has committed over N1 billion to revolutionise healthcare service delivery in the state.

    According to a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, in Kano on Tuesday, the approval was given during the 15th State Executive Council (SEC).

    He said that the investment aims to enhance infrastructure, services, and training, prioritising maternal, neonatal, child health, and emergency care.

    He explained that about N165 million was allocated for essential medications and newborn packs, free maternal, neonatal, child health, and emergency supplies from 2024.

    He said that about N 57 million was spent on the completion and upgrade of vital health facilities, at College of Nursing and Midwifery in Madobi .

    Similarly, N 61.8 million was spent on Community Hospital at Kadawa and Specialised sickle cell unit at Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital.

    Also carried out was the renovation of Infectious Diseases Hospital for the new Kano State Centre for Disease Control at the cost of N64.8 million.

    It also includes the upgrades at School of Health Technology, Kano at the cost of N35 million and College of Nursing and Midwifery in Dambatta where N28.5 million was spent.

    He said that about N 770 million was committed on the construction of Post Midwifery Institute at Gezewa and N17.4 million was spent on renovation of Isolation Centre in Yargaya.

    This investment, Tofa said, demonstrates Yusuf’s commitment to transforming Kano’s healthcare sector, prioritising access to quality care for all residents of the state. ( NAN)
