Street lights: Adamawa Govt. records 60 per cent reduction in crime – Commissioner

Yola, Sept. 13, 2017 (NAN) Adamawa Government says it has recorded 60 per cent reduction in crime because of the street lights it installed on major roads in the state capital, Yola.
Alhaji Ahmad Sajoh, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, disclosed this while briefing newsmen shortly after the state Executive Council meeting in Yola on Wednesday.
Sajoh said that the crime assessment from the security agencies in the state had shown that criminal activities had declined due to the illumination of the city.
He added that street lighting which was one of the achievements of the present administration, had enhanced safety in the state capital.
He said that the government had awarded contracts for the installation of more street lights within the state.
The commissioner also said that the cost of sustaining the lights was minimal, especially as the power from the National grid was stable.
He assured residents of adequately security of lives and property in the state.
Mrs Lilian Steven, Commissioner for Works, said that the administration had approved N679 million for the construction of 4.1 km road in Fofore Local Government Area of the state.
Steven said that the state government had already executed road projects in other remote areas of the state.
She added that the administration would continue to construct roads to boast the economy of local communities. (NAN)
