Dutse, Sept. 13, 2017 (NAN) The Federal Government on Wednesday said it had provided 570 bundles of improved Cassava stems to Cassava Farmers Association of Nigeria (CFAN), Jigawa chapter.

The Director, Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA) in the state, Malam Ahmad Labaran, disclosed this to newsmen in Dutse.

Labaran said the stems were sourced from the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan.

He said each bundle contained 50 stems of one meter height, adding that the gesture would boost cassava production in the state.

“The federal government sourced the stems from IITA, Ibadan, to boost farmers’ morale and enhance production of the crop.

“It is a usual thing by the federal government to provide inputs to farmers through their association.

“But this time around, it decided to do that through the Green House,” the director said.

The Treasurer of the association, Malam Umar Bobi, in his remarks, commended the federal government for the gesture.

He said the stems would be distributed to farmers across the state, adding that each farmer would get five bundles of the stems.(NAN)
