Sokoto: NGO tasks stakeholders on inclusive education, Tsangaya schools reform

Sokoto, June 22, 2024 (NAN) An NGO, Safe The Child Initiative (STCI), has urged the stakeholders in the education sector to work toward influencing relevant government agencies on gender-responsive, inclusive education planning and Tsangaya reforms.

STCI’s Chief Executive, Mr Abdulganiyu Abubakar, made the call during a stakeholders advocacy and influencing engagement on Friday in Sokoto.

He said STCI, supported by PLAN International EU-INTPA , was implementing a Project tagged ” Strengthening Civil Society to Enhance Education for all in Northern Nigeria”.

According to him, the project is being implemented in Sokoto State and Adamawa to address out-of-school children and support Tsangaya education transformation in the states.

Abubakar explained that stakeholders involved comprise community-based groups, civil society organisations and Qur’anic schools’ tutors besides statutory government agencies.

He further urged Gov. Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State to consider the appointment of persons with requisite training and capacity to man ministries and establishments in order to achieve the desired success.

In his address, the Director of Budget in the state’s Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Buhari Umar, reiterated the state government’s commitment to partner with donor agencies and other groups on enhancing peoples’ lives.

Umar advised the stakeholders to intensify efforts for the institution of stringent measures on reducing all forms of street begging, establishment of Almajiri schools and similar religious institutions which breed out-of-school children and other non formal gatherings.

Also speaking,the Chairman, Coalition of NGOs in  the state, Malam Shehu Gwadabawa, stressed the importance of understanding and partnerships among government institutions and partners on ensuring seamless activities.

Gwadabawa assured more support to collaborating partners toward achieving the desired impacts.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event featured presentations from School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) Chairman, Malam Umar Jabo, Chairperson of 100 Women Group, Hajia Fatima Lawal and Malam Muhammadu Maigero, the Chairman, Qur’anic memorizers groups in Sokoto state.

It also witnessed questions and answers, solutions to some envisaged challenges and discussions on the reforms system as well as education policy documents in the state. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
