Spiritualists

Lagos, Feb. 24, 2017 (NAN) A 70-year-old spiritualist, Mogbonjubola Raheem and a man, Saheed Akani, who allegedly defrauded a man of N1 million, were on Friday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The duo is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and theft.
The prosecutor, ASP Richard Odigie told the court that the accused and her accomplices, Akani, 47, and two others still at large committed the offences on Jan. 16, at about 10.00 p.m.
He said accused collected the money from the complainant, Mr Olawale Williams of Lagasa Town, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos on the pretext of offering prayers for his prosperity and protection against mishaps.
He said the two others at large claimed they saw a vision that the complainant had some spiritual problems and lured him to the house.
“When they got to the apartment, they met Raheem and Akanni, who told him to go and bring all the money he had.
“The complainant gave them N1 million for all his spiritual problems to be solved but he did not hear from any of them again.
“He later went back to the apartment and this led to the arrest of the duo, ” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 provides three years for offenders, while Section 312 prescribes 15 years.
Section 409 carries two years imprisonment for offenders.
Both the spiritualist and her accomplice pleaded not guilty.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs F.O. Ikobayo, granted them N500,000 bail each and two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned to March 6 for mention.(NAN)
