Abuja, Feb.24, 2017(NAN) A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a 35-year-old mechanic, Abdul Isiaka to six weeks imprisonment over N480,000 car engine fraud.
Isiaka of Kuje, pleaded guilty and was convicted on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The Judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, however gave the convict an option of N8, 000 fine.
He also ordered the convict to pay N480,000 to the complainant for the engine he did not purchase.
The prosecutor, Mrs Chinyere Jimoh, told the court that one Christian Bembe of FCDA, Area 11, Garki reported the matter at Garki Police Station on Nov.2, 2016.
He said that the complainant entrusted the convict with N480, 000 for him to purchase a BMW car engine for him.
According to Jimoh,“ additional N25,000 was given to him for his transportation from Abuja to Lagos.’’
“Instead, he collected the money and converted it to his personal use and absconded,’’ she said.
She also said that all efforts to retrieve the money proved abortive.
The prosecutor said the offence was contrary to Sections 322 and 312 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
