Lagos, Jan. 16, 2017 (NAN) A 32-year old security guard, Dajal Danladi, was on Monday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing phones valued N 520,000.
The accused, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Joseph Ajebe, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 5, at Jumia Company’s warehouse situated at No. 6B, Universal Close, Ikeja, Lagos.
He said that the accused, a security guard at the company, was caught stealing eight Bryte G7 cell phones valued N520,000.
Ajebe said the case was reported to the police by one Christian Momoh, another security officer with the company.
He said that Momoh reported the matter after receiving information about the theft from the Chief Security Officer attached to the company.
The prosecutor said that the accused was caught through the CCTV camera while stealing phones.
“Danladi was on night shift and was seen via the CCTV camera stealing the phones.
“He unlocked the warehouse with a master key and stole eight phones valued N520,000,’’Ajebe said
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, pleaded not guilty.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 285 prescribes three years imprisonment for anyone found liable of stealing.
The Magistrate, Mr Alexander Komolafe, granted the accused N 250,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case till Jan. 31 for mention. (NAN)
