Police restate readiness to flush kidnappers, other criminals out of Ebonyi

Abakaliki, Feb 10, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Police Force, Ebonyi State Command, on Friday reiterated its readiness to rid the state of kidnappers and other criminal elements.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Jude Madu, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He added that the force had been repositioned and well equipped to fight crime in the state.

According to him, the police are committed to enhancing the peace, security and protection of lives and property of the citizens by ensuring 24-hour patrol and surveillance.

He said that the recent surge in armed kidnapping in some parts of the state had been brought under control; while a number of arrests were made and suspects assisting the police with useful information.

Madu emphasised the need for proper cooperation and collaboration between the police and the people in the area on information and timely reporting of criminal activities and their hideouts.

“The command will not rest on its oars until all the criminal elements are flushed out of the state and crime reduced to zero level.

“This is the commitment of the new Commissioner of Police, Mr Titus Sumba-Lamorde.

“We demand the collaboration of the public, especially in volunteering useful information about criminal activities in their areas.

“Policemen are not spirit and must depend on useful information volunteered by the people to effectively combat crime,” Madu said.

He maintained that the personnel of the Anti-Kidnapping (AK), State Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and the Campus Monitoring Unit (CMU) had been retrained to effectively tackle security challenges.

The police spokesman also solicited cooperation of the media, stressing that accurate and unbiased report of activities of the command would boost the morale of its officers and men.

“I believe that media too has a role to play in the war against crime and criminal activities in the state.

“Hence we are soliciting for accurate and unbiased reportage of the activities and achievements of the Police to boost their morale, ” Madu added.

The police image maker, who did not reveal the number of kidnapping cases currently being investigated, insisted that the command had secured the conviction of a number of kidnap suspects.

He stressed the Force determination to make Ebonyi a safe haven for all. (NAN)
