Lagos, Feb. 10, 2017 (NAN) The police in Lagos on Friday arraigned two truck drivers, who allegedly conspired to steal 90,000 litres of aviation fuel worth N26 million.

The accused – Tony John and Imuero Ogoro – appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge.

John, a resident of Possy School Road, Benin, and Ogoro, who  lives at Agbaro area of Edo, are standing trial for conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Peter Nwangwu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 13, 2016 at Apapa, Lagos.

“The duo conspired with others now at large to steal 90,000 litres of aviation fuel valued at N26 million, property of Cleanserve Integrated Energy Solutions, Opebi, Ikeja,’’ Nwangu said.

He said that the accused absconded with the aviation fuel they were directed to deliver in Borno, following a contract secured by the company’s Managing Director, Mr Adeyinka Adewale.

“All efforts to reach them proved unsuccessful until they were apprehended by the police,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Y.O. Aje-Afunwa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties each in like sum.

She said that the sureties must be property owners in Lagos.

Aje-Afunwa adjourned the case till April 10 for mention. (NAN)
