Protest
Jos, Feb. 14, 2017 (NAN) Persons living with Disabilities in Plateau, on Tuesday protested government’s nomination of Mr James Lalu, to be screened as the Chairman of the Disables Rights Commission.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the protesters stormed the Plateau State House of Assembly in Jos to register their disapproval and displeasure of the nominee.
The protesters carried various placards with inscriptions faulting the integrity of the nominee.
Mr Joshua Yela, who led the protesters, told the speaker that Lalu, who was a one-time senior special adviser to former governor Jonah Jang for persons with disability in 2011, had faced similar protest for immediate removal.
Yela said that it had not been easy for those living with disabilities in the State as they had been denied their rights to the extent of closing down their schools.
He alleged that the sum of N6.9 million given to Lalu for the maintenance of the school was misappropriated by him.
“Lalu forged a letter impersonating as the Chairman of the State’s Disability Right Commission requesting to send some persons for training in Malaysia,’’ he further alleged.
Responding, Mr Peter Azi, the Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, said that since the case was in court, it would amount to subjudice for the house to intervene.
Azi assured them that justice would take its course, saying that the house would obey the judgment of the court. (NAN)
