Structures

Ilorin, Feb. 14, 2017 (NAN) An Ilorin based medical doctor, Prof. Rabiu Yinka has attributed the increasing number of doctors who practice from their homes to lack of functional medical structures in the country.

Yinka told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday that there was the need to put relevant policies and structures in place to accommodate medical doctors before graduation.

He said some graduate doctors indulge in such practice when they failed to secure a place for their internship after graduation from medical schools.

The medical practitioner, however, called on governments to focus more on areas that could help eradicate poverty rather than embark on infrastructural projects.

“You cannot eradicate problems like this except policies and structures are put in place by government at all levels.

“I want to urge government to concentrate on how to focus on poverty eradication, rather than going into unnecessary projects,’’ Yinka said.

He decried the situation where doctors who had graduated for many years could not get employment in the country. (NAN) BAY/MNA/EEE
