Paris Club refund: Adamawa lawmaker makes case for LG workers

Yola, Jan. 24, 2017 (NAN) Alhaji Abdulrahman Abubakar, the member representing Mubi South Constituency in the Adamawa House of Assembly, has petitioned the committee handling the  payment of workers salary arrears and liabilities over the  plight of Mubi South Council staff.

In an official letter to Alhaji Abdulrahman Abba-Jimeta,  the chairman of the committee, Abubakar said that some staff of the council were owed six months arrears totalling N58.5 million after screening.

He urged the committee to facilitate  the payment of the workers’  salary arrears   after necessary scrutiny.

The lawmaker  explained that in April and September 2014, staff from all departments were owed N50.5 million while in August, September and November of the same year,  some  staff were owed N10.3 million.

He also noted that  22 staff of  the Administration Department of the local government were owed N418, 619.21 salary for the month of May 2010 while some staff of agriculture and works department were owed N2 million for the month of March 2015.

Meanwhile, Abba-Jimeta  has announced that all  was  now set for the payment of the council staff .

Abba-Jimeta said that out of the N4.8 billion received as Paris Club refund, N1.7 billion was allocated for council staff, N2.9 billion  for teachers,  N907 million  for primary healthcare workers while N116 million was allocated to  political office holders. (NAN)
