Lafia, Jan. 24, 2017 (NAN) Gov. Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State on Tuesday warned against statements and actions capable of inciting one group against another.

“ We mus all avoid inciting statements and actions that could lead to a breach of the peace we are enjoying; we must always work toward peace, unity and security consciousness,” the governor said in Lafia.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Al-makura gave the warning when a delegation of Tiv Community in Nasarawa State, led by the President, Tiv Development Association, (TIDA), Mr Moses Utondo, paid him a courtesy visit.

The governor called on the people to work toward lasting peace irrespective of their political, religious, ethnic or religious affiliation.

He also advised them to exercise patience and pray for a stable and prosperous Nasarawa State and Nigeria.

The governor specifically warned that he would not tolerate rumour mongering and unguarded utterances capable of undermining his efforts to build a peaceful society.

Al-makura appreciated the support and loyalty of the Tiv community, noting that such show of solidarity had been rewarded with appointments to its people.

Earlier, Utondu had appreciated the governor’s developmental stride and thanked him for being the first governor to visit their ancestral home.

He said that the Tiv were an integral part of Nasarawa State with a long history and a large population scattered around Keana, Awe, Doma, Lafia and Karu local government areas. (NAN)
