Lagos, May 2, 2018 (NAN) The Ogun State Taekwondo Association (OSTA), says its forthcoming one-day coaching seminar is aimed at enhancing the capacity of its practitioners to grow the sport.

OSTA’s Secretary Opeoluwa Osoba told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos that the seminar, tagged “Building New Generation of Taekwondo Champions’’, was an annual event.

Osoba added that the programme which would hold on May 5 at the Indoor Sports Hall of Alake Sports Centre, Ijega, Abeokuta, would have Grand Masters (GM), Emmanuel Oghenejobo and Osita Egwim as resources persons.

“This is part of our annual programmes and the purpose is to bring the trainers together, and make to be abreast of the latest rules being the supervisors of the athletes.

“We aspire to improve the skills of athletes as well as build new generation of taekwondo champions capable enough to distinguish themselves in various championships.

“The purpose of this programme has compelled us to have GM Oghenejobo and Egwim as resource persons who will update them with the latest rules and techniques,’’ he said.

He added that the seminar would pay attention to key areas such as competition drills, sparring/poomsae, condition training, diet and sports (Taekwondo) psychology.

The OSTA Chairman, George Ashiru, told NAN that the programme was open and free to all practitioners, adding that it was to give room for increased participation in the sport across the country.

Ashiru urged practitioners that aspire to enhance their coaching and officiating skills to take advantage of the programme to update themselves.

“There is every need to bring our technical officials at par with what is obtainable in coaching and officiating elsewhere because they are saddled with the responsibility of building athletes.

“This is the reason we are organising the programme at no cost so that practitioners will have no excuse for not being part of this empowerment seminar,’’ he added.

Ashiru, who was the immediate past president of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, told NAN that he would continue to identify with measures that would enhance the profile of the sport in Nigeria. (NAN)
