Lagos, May 2, 2018 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Wednesday sentenced a 28-year-old man, Bideni Eweje to 90 days in prison with hard labour for stealing handbag.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Y. O. Aje- Afunwa, said the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.

Aje- Afunwa advised Eweje who gave no fixed address to desist from committing crimes.

The convict, who was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft, pleaded guilty to the charges.

The police prosecutor, Insp. Peter Nwangwu, said the convict committed the offence on March 22, at 4.50 p.m. along Airport Road, Lagos.

Nwangwu said the convict stole one brown handbag containing two black purses and N277, 000 cash belonging to one Funmilayo Ajisafe.

“The man admitted, during interrogation, that he stole the said items,” he said.

Nwangwu said the bag and the money were recovered from the convict by the police.

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised). (NAN)
