Dutse, May 25, 2018 (NAN) The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Jigawa said on Friday that it had trained 2,100 youths, including 1,070 women in various income-generating trades, to enhance their socio-economic development.
Malam Abubakar Muhammad, the NDE’s State Coordinator, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse that the beneficiaries were trained between January and April 2018.
Muhammad said that 1,000 female beneficiaries and 400 male beneficiaries were trained in cosmetology under the Directorate’s Women Empowerment Programme (WEP) in January.
He noted that 60 young men were trained in mobile phone repair business, satellite installation, tailoring, automobile mechanic, carpentry and electrical installation during the period, under the NDE Basic Community Training Scheme (CBTS).
The coordinator said that another set of 100 male and female beneficiaries were trained in cosmetology and other trades by the directorate in April.
According to him, 70 women received the training in cosmetology, while 30 male beneficiaries received training in GSM repair, satellite installation, tailoring, automobile mechanic, carpentry and electrical installation.
Muhammad noted that the training would reduce the level of unemployment and restiveness among youths in the state.
According to him, the gesture is also aimed at empowering women to contribute to the well-being of their families and overall economic growth of the state.
“Why we included men in cosmetology training was because we couldn’t get the required number of females in the area; so, that was why we decided to fill the vacancy with male beneficiaries.
“So far, this is what we have been able to achieve in 2018 but more trainings under different schemes are coming sooner or later, ‘’ Muhammad said. (NAN)
