Advocacy
By Mohammed Lawal
Zaria (Kaduna State) June 22, 2017 (NAN) Prof. Augustine Agom, Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Zaria branch, has solicited collaboration between the association and Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) on capacity building, public advocacy and other judicial matters.
Agom said this in a statement signed by Assistant Director, Public Relations of the institute, Mr Paul Mshelizah in Zaria on Thursday.
According to the statement, the chairman made the remark when he led the association’s executive members on a courtesy visit to NITT Director-General, Dr Aminu Musa-Yusuf.
The legal luminary decried the little advocacy about what the organisation could do for Nigeria.
“If there is proper funding and recognition, going by the mandate and enabling law, this Institution has so much to contribute to the Nigerian society and economy,” Agom said.
The chairman observed that there was a global inclination towards “Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)” and urged NITT to take advantage of it.
He appealed to NITT management to minimise cost of litigations by employing the services of Zaria-based law firms which, he said had the competence to handle any legal issues.
Responding, the NITT D-G, who acknowledged the inter-disciplinary nature of the legal profession, expressed the institute’s willingness to collaborate with NBA, Zaria branch.
He noted that the collaboration would become more pertinent considering NITT’s quest to domesticate the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) in Nigeria.
According to him, this will help professionalise the transport industry and make it more efficient.
The D-G expressed optimism that the bill would be passed into law to rid the industry of quacks.
He thanked NBA for their legitimate interest and stated that NITT’s management was open to constructive and progressive partnership for the mutual benefit of the two organisations. (NAN)
