Nasarawa Govt donates food items to army officers’ widows

Lafia, Feb. 2, 2017 (NAN) The Nasarawa State Government on Thursday distributed food items to widows of former army officers across the 13 local government areas of the state.
Augustine Ashikini, the Director Social Welfare in the state, said that the gesture further fulfilled Gov. Umaru Tanko Al-Makura earlier promises to members of the legion.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 100 bags of rice were donated to 65 widows of the ex-army officers at the occasion.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Esther Emmanuel, a widow, thanked the state government for coming to their aid.
She also appealed to the government to fulfill its pledge to offer automatic employment to our sons and daughters of the late army officers.
Lt.-Col. David Masaka (Rtd) state Chairman of the legion, also assured that the Nigerian Legion in the state would give unflinching support to the state government. (NAN)
