Accidental bombing: My appreciation to people, government of Borno for their understanding, says Theatre Commander

Maiduguri, Feb.2, 2017(NAN) Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor , the Theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, on Thursday paid glowing tribute to the people and government of Borno for their understanding when an Air Force  jet bombed an IDP camp in the state in error.

“I wish to appreciate the contributions and support of everyone.
‘’The understanding shown by the State Government and the people of the state during the trying moment is very well appreciated,” said Irabor , while speaking with newsmen in Maiduguri.

While lamenting the incident, he said the command had established that the action was purely a mistake and not intentional.

“I have constituted a board of inquiry to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident.
“So far, it had been established that the strike was a mistake,” he added.
Speaking on efforts to make the state safe for the people, Irabor said the army had killed suspected Boko Haram insurgents during various mop-up operations in the last few days.
“As part of operations to dominate Sambisa Forest, troops on Jan 14, at about 0900hours, recovered weapons, including a GPMG, AK 47 rifle, 2269 rounds of ammunition, two RPG bombs and 528 rounds of special,” he said.
The commander said the army also succeeded in many other operations aimed at checking the menace of insurgents. (NAN)
