Nasarawa community solicits govt intervention in infrastructure development

Gitata (Nasarawa State), April 24, 2018 (NAN) Residents of Gitata in Karu Local Government area of Nasarawa State on Tuesday appealed to the state government to provide social amenities to improve the standard of living of the people.

Some of the residents, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Gitata, Karu, said that they were calling for the intervention to alleviate the plight of all the people.

They said that improvement of infrastructure by the state government would not only improve their standard of living, but would also fight unemployment and poverty in the area.

Mr Shuaibu Ahmadu, a resident and hunter in the area, said that the area lacked portable water supply and electricity which had affected the standard of living of the people negatively.

“As you can see, we depend on well and borehole water that is provided by individuals for drinking and domestic use.

“I am appealing to the state government to provide this area with infrastructural development such as portable water supply, electricity, and healthcare, among others in order to improve on our standard of living.

“Provision of social amenities will not only improve our standard of living, but will also tackle unemployment and poverty in the area,” he said.

Ahmadu, however, commended Gov. Tanko Al-makura for his giant development strides across the state and called for its sustenance.

Another resident, Kelechi Daniel, also said that that the people lacked infrastructure.

He said that residents had been having serious problems with electricity supply, adding that the situation had compelled some of the residents to buy generators of their own.

“This is one of the essential services which the government is supposed to provide for its citizens, but we lacked these facilities here as you can see,” he said.

Mr Muhammadu Sani, another resident, also appealed to the state government to provide the area with infrastructure in order to better their standard of living for the overall development of the country.

“We lack social amenities in this area that is why I am appealing to the state government to provide this area with portable water and electricity, among others.

“Our only source of water is well water and borehole provided by individuals and we are using generators due to absence of electricity,” he said.
