Cheating
Abuja, May 26, 2017 (NAN) The police on Friday arraigned one Edward Michael of Wuse Zone 3, Abuja in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court over alleged cheating.
Micheal is standing trial on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The Prosecutor, Mr Oyeyemi Adeniyi, told court that one Etim Abraham of Wuse 2, Abuja reported the matter at the Wuse Police Station on May 14.
He said that sometime in February, the defendant came to the complainant’s working place at Ademola Adetokunbo Street, Wuse 2, where he was selling drinks and deceitfully collected drinks worth N45, 700.
Adeniyi said that the defendant pledged that he was going to pay for the drinks and also collected a Tecno phone, valued at N26, 000 from the complainant.
The prosecutor said that the defendant pretended that he wanted to use the phone and make an urgent call but later absconded with the phone and the drinks.
Adeniyi said that the offences contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr Teribo Jim, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety that must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case until June 8 for hearing. (NAN)
