Man, 54, docked for alleged N100, 000 fraud

Lagos, Jan. 11, 2017 (NAN) A 54-year-old man, Christopher Nzeribe, who allegedly defrauded one Chukwuemeka Promise of N100, 000 was on Wednesday arrainged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, who resides at No. 3, Fashola St., Ishaga, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining under false pretence.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Babaji Ishaku, told the court that the accused committed the offences with others still at large on Dec. 21, 2016 at Iju-Ishaga, Lagos.

He said the accused boarded the same taxi with the complainant and told her that he just came back from Senegal and had no Nigeria currency on him.

“The accused collected N100, 000 from the complainant in exchange for his laptop and phone which he refused to release to her.

“The accused was caught few days later when the complainant saw him at the bus stop,” he said.

Ishaku said the offences contravened Sections 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mr J.A. Adegun granted the accused N50, 000 bail with a surety in like sum.

He said the surety must be a civil servant and must show evidence of three-year tax payment to Lagos State Government and adjourned the case till Jan. 25 for mention. (NAN)
