Asaba, Feb. 8, 2018 (NAN) A 33-year-old man, Augustine Akeaze, who allegedly stole property worth N651,000, was on Thursday brought before an Asaba Magistrates’ Court.
Akeaze is standing trial on a count charge of theft before Magistrate Okonkwo Akanume.
The prosecutor, Mr Joseph Ekwebele, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 10, 2017 at Umuagu Quarters in Asaba.
Ekwebele said that the accused allegedly broke into the store of Mr Obayan Jindu, and stole a Plasma Television valued at N67, 000 and two lap tops valued at N380, 000.
He said that other items stolen were two LCD Television valued at N120, 000, one big naira bet banner valued N11, 000, DSTV decoder valued at N26, 000 and N47, 000, all property of Jindu.
The offence is punishable under Sections 516, 413(1) (2) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap C21 V0l 1 laws of Delta state of Nigeria 2006.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Akanume granted the accused bail of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate ordered that the sureties must be relatives of the accused, provide evidence of employment or means of livelihood and provide two passport photographs each.
She added that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
Akanume adjourned the case until Feb.21 for hearing. (NAN)
