Businessman bags 6 months imprisonment for receiving stolen property

Abuja, Feb.8, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a businessman, Sani Hamma, to six months imprisonment for receiving stolen phones.
Hamma, who resides at Life Camp, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to a count charge of receiving stolen property and begged for leniency.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine
Sadiq also warned him to be of good conduct and desist from committing crime.
The prosecutor, Mrs Florence Auhioboh, had told the court that on Jan. 30, one Michael Sharon of Utako village, came to Utako Camp Police Station and reported a matter against his girlfriend ,Albert Theresa
Auhioboh said that on Jan. 17 Theresa dishonestly and smartly made away with the complainant’s cell phone worth N290,000 and N26,000 cash.
She said that Theresa was apprehended and she confessed that she sold the phone to Hamma for N50,000.
The prosecutor said that during police investigations, Hamma confessed that he sold the said phone to unknown person for N90,000, and all effort made to recover the phone prove abortive.
Auhioboh said that the convict was still undergoing Police investigation, while the offence contravened Section 397 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
