Lagos, Dec. 20, 2016 (NAN) A 32-year-old man, Alex Adeniyi, who allegedly bolted with a motorcycle valued at N150,000 he acquired under a hire purchase agreement, was on Tuesday granted bail on the orders of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Adeniyi, whose address is unknown, was granted bail in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties after he pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft.

The accused committed the offence at Oja Oko-Oba in Agege area of Lagos on Nov.1, the Prosecutor, Insp. Eruada Victor, told the court.

He said the accused stole a Bajaj motorcycle, property of the complainant, Mathew Ogbulugi, after he had entered into an agreement to buy the motorcycle on hire purchase.

“The complainant gave the accused the motorcycle on hire purchase for N150,000 and he agreed to a weekly remittance of N7,500; he paid for just two weeks and he disappeared with the motorcycle.

“He did not show up to tell the complainant what happened to the motorcycle and why he stopped the daily remittance.

“After some months, the complainant saw him passing by and the accused told him that the motorcycle had been impounded by the police.

“The complainant followed him to the police station where he found out that the man was playing pranks,’’ he said.

The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, Mrs. G.O. Anifowoshe, who gave the ruling, adjourned the case to Jan. 1, 2017 for mention. (NAN)
