Court grants dissolution of 47-year marriage in Ibadan

NAN-H-6

Dissolution

Ibadan, Dec. 20, 2016 (NAN) A Grade C Customary Court, Agodi, Ibadan, on Tuesday granted the prayer of a grandfather, Adeetan Adeoye, to end his 47-year-old marriage with his wife, Sekinatu.

Pa Adeoye had on Dec. 5 requested for the dissolution of the union to avoid further embarrassment, molestation and provocation from the respondent.

In his testimony before the court, the petitioner stated that his wife used to partake in widows’ benefits and abused him whenever he raised eyebrows on her actions.

“She collected widows money and food, she replied me that I am a dead man when I asked her reason for doing that.

“She is a disobedient woman; I am tired of her victimisation and can no longer cope with her bad attitude since our togetherness is no more peaceful,’’ the complainant alleged.

In her defence, the woman, who said the petitioner married her as a virgin 47 years ago, pleaded with the court not to dissolve the marriage that was blessed with four grown up children.

Sekinatu said: “Though he did not pay my dowry nor know my parents since we married but I do not want to leave him.’’

She said that her husband had not been living up to his responsibilities, saying she has being solely responsible for the maintenance of the four children till they were grown up.

In his judgment, the President of the court, Chief Mukaila Balogun, granted the dissolution request of the petitioner.

He said the evidence of both parties had shown that there was no love between the couple.

Balogun ordered the couple to go their separate ways, saying the petitioner and the respondent remain unmarried since the petitioner did not pay any dowry. (NAN)
