Man, 23, faces possession of fake currency charge

Lagos, July 27, 2017 (NAN) A 23-year-old man, Taoreed Olatunbosun,  was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos,  over alleged possession of fake currencies.

The accused, a motor boy of No. 52, Owode St., Agbowa, Imota near Epe, Lagos State, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and forgery.

Sgt. Donjor Perezi, the Police Prosecutor, said the offences were committed with others still; at large on May 3 at 2.30 p.m. at Oluwole area of Lagos Island.

He said the accused was later  apprehended by a team of policemen led by Insp. Eluyeka Elujide, while on patrol.

Perezi alleged that Olatunbosun was accosted at Peckas Club in Ikorodu at night .

He said 33 pieces of fake currency were recovered from him during a search.

“The accused was further questioned and he said the fake currency was given to him by one Tope,  popularly known
as”Oye”, based in Oluwole area of Lagos.”

The offences contravened Sections 372 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 372 prescribes three years in jail for forgery, while Section 409
stipulates two years for conspiracy.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka, granted the accused N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned
the case until Aug. 7 for mention. (NAN)
