Frankfurt, Feb. 9, 2017 (dpa/NAN) An employee of the Catholic diocese of Limburg in Western Germany is under investigation on suspicion of owning child pornography and has been fired from his position, officials confirmed on Thursday.

A spokesman for the Frankfurt prosecutor’s office said that the suspect’s office and home had been raided on Feb. 1, adding that a data storage device had been confiscated as evidence.

Both Stephan Schnelle, spokesman for the diocese, and the prosecutor’s office declined to confirm in what capacity the suspect had been working at the diocese.

The diocese of Limburg made headlines in 2013 when it emerged that Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst – Limburg’s so-called “bling bishop” had spent millions in church funds on extravagant home improvements. (Reuters/NAN)
